When discussing the track 'Rapture of the Beast', Simeon (synths/production) describes his influences as 'minimal stuff like Severed Heads and Martin Dupont. We were trying out a different compositional approach and we wanted a more direct sound so we used hardware sequencers rather than computer based software to give a much more immediate and tactile process. The limitations of the hardware only approach really shaped our approach and the music. We were exploring super minimalistic composition and using a lot of gradually progressing repetition which hardware methods lend themselves well to. When Chris joined and began writing the guitar parts, the track began to move in a new.' This new direction was spurred on by Chris Maltby's (guitar) punk roots and what he describes as an attempt to 'encapsulate what I know the be the Mausoleums aesthetic while bringing something of my own to the table drawing on influences I believe we all share including bands such as the Clash, the Cure and Joy Division.'
Atop this sits haunting lyrics, which Elliot Reeves (vocals/synths), explains are an 'otherworldly play in which medieval people live in a timeless world with all eras, technology and violence coming together as one big set piece, like the Italian prog films the track is inspired by, it's probably the most lyrically ambitious I've been yet, I thought as the verses as acts and the chorus just an interlude to what is really going on, And what is really going on shouldn't be allowed ...'
The 2-track single also features a new, revisited and remixed version of their previous single, 'GYRE', featuring guitar and new vocals.
